August Issue

Last month we learned about the power of compassion. We discovered how we can show compassion in all circumstances and how it is one of the best ways to show God’s love to the world. Through some special heroes like Ruth, Boaz, Joseph, and Jesus, we saw that compassion is action not just words.

This month we are “tuning in” to our Heavenly Father and learning to “hear” Him speaking to us. Because He isn’t a human and His first language isn’t English, God uses unique and amazing ways to speak to His children.

Sometimes He speaks in ways that are audible, like in the case of a young boy named Samuel. However, as we investigate the lives of the disciple Peter, and a man named Joseph, we’ll discover God’s way of communicating doesn’t look the same for everyone. In fact, as we’ll find in the life of Gideon, God can use some pretty interesting methods to get our attention.

We will learn how we can listen to God even when we are sad, hurt, or scared. God speaks peace and will calm us and help us just as He did with Elijah with a still small voice outside a cave entrance. God also might just show you your new assignment.

Finally, we will spend some time with Jonah, who didn’t want to listen to God’s message of repentance to the people of Nineveh. He wanted to run from God’s words, but God had a different plan. That plan involved a big storm and three days in a smelly belly, but Jonah learned you can’t run from God.

Part of the beauty of God’s love for us is that He actully likes to spend time with us and speak to us. All we have to do, is “tune” our hearts to listen and be willing to follow wherever He leads!

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight” – Proverbs 3:5-6

Successful VBS Voyage!

A big THANK YOU to all of those who helped make this year’s Great Commission Expedition such a huge success!
The kids had a great time traveling through the many different stations. They created their very own artwork, learned from the apostle Paul how to “Be Bald” for Jesus! (Oops… it was “Be Bold” wasn’t it? 😊)

We played games, learned some fun new moves, and even learned a magic trick or two. All the while we discovered how God invites us on a lifetime adventure to join the Great Commission and tell the world about Him.

Meet The Teacher

I grew up in Bristol and married my high school sweetheart. I got my college degree in accounting and now spend my days working with numbers. I am a mom to two precious girls, four dogs, a cat, chickens, and pigeons. I enjoy working with the kids of our church! I love spending time with my family, traveling, and reading.

I was raised in church and got saved at the age of 14. In 2014, my husband Jesse and I started attending First Christian regularly. A few years later I began volunteering as a teacher for children’s program downstairs.

I got baptized on Father’s Day 2023. It was an amazing experience that I will treasure forever. I had the honor of being baptized by my husband Jesse. That same day, he also baptized both of my daughters, my niece and nephew, and my father in law.
