February Issue

Last month we learned what it means to trust and obey God. We looked at the lives of four individuals and saw how their radical obedience shaped not just their individual destiny but the destiny of those around them. We learned that God doesn’t look at the most qualified person to do His work; He looks for someone who’s heart is to simply say “YES!” to His call.

This month we are discovering how God puts dreams into our hearts and how He loves to partner with us to see them come true. We first meet a man named Abram who, though he had no children, was told his descendants would outnumber the stars. God planted in his heart a dream to see a time beyond himself where a whole nation would call him “Father”.

Next, we’ll learn the power of teamwork with King David. David dreamed of building a permanent dwelling place for Yahweh. God honored the dream but changed the plan, tasking David’s son Solomon to build the temple born in David’s heart. We’ll rebuild the walls with Nehemiah. Though he had a comfortable life in far off Peria, God stirred a dream in Nehemiah’s heart to see his beloved Jerusalem safe again.

Finally, we will take a trip with Paul the Apostle. Paul zealously worked to reach his people the Jews with the Good News of Jesus. However, God used circumstances and then a dream to compel Paul to preach beyond his people to Gentiles all over the known world.

God calls each of us to a purpose. How often do children have big dreams of who they want to be or what they want to do when they “grow up”? While our world would love to crush “childish” dreams, it is our privilege and responsibility to encourage our children to dream big with our Heavenly Father who loves them and created them for a beautiful destiny.

“Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established.” Psalm 16:3
