February Issue

Understanding the Trinity can be hard even for us as adults. How is our God three persons yet still One God? Our kids are tackling this great mystery and asking great questions as we discover more about the Godhead. We are using the verbiage “Same God Different Job” as a way to understand God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

Last month we learned about God the Father. We saw Him as our Creator, our Good Father, and also the Righteous Judge. We talked about false gods, what they really are, and how they try to trick people into worshiping them instead of the One True God. We armed ourselves with truths found in scripture that our God is Holy, Good, and the Creator of Heaven and Earth, so that we wouldn’t fall for the schemes of the devil and his so-called gods.

This month is all about God the Son. We will be searching our Bibles for the truth of who Jesus is and His role as the Word of God, the Perfect Lamb, our Savior, and the Way, Truth, and Life.

Because of how big His love is for us, we have two power verses. John 3:16 “For God loved the world so much He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him may not die but have eternal life.” GNT

Our second verse is John 14:6, “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the Way, Truth and the Life; no one goes to the Father except by Me.’” GNT

We are diving deep into the heart of the Father for His kids through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, and making sure that we give space for our kids to respond to the Lover of our souls.

Let’s Worship

Join in the song the kids are singing!

We love worship! Hearing the sweet voices of our kids as they praise Jesus is one of the best sounds in the world.

We are going to be learning some new songs as well as some fun motions that help our kids connect with the words. We encourage you to “join in the song” playing them in the car, as you are cooking dinner, or in a family worship time as an extra way to connect with your kids and with our Amazing God. There are links for three songs on the “Events and Links” page.

Also, we are thrilled to announce that Dave Vaught will be joining us downstairs from time to time to play guitar for a live worship set with the kids. We are so thankful that he is offering his time and his mad musical skills to our amazing kids.

Events and Links

Lots in store!
We have an exciting month planned. Two events you need to know about – we are having a special Valentine Sunday on February 12th, that will include live worship, a craft, and a sweet treat. We want our kids to know that Jesus was the best Valentine gift ever given.

That next week, February 19th, during the Sunday school hour (9:30-10:30) we will be having a fun, tasty craft making time. Don’t worry, these tasty treats are healthy (well, at least mostly)!

Coming in March we will be starting a Wednesday night class called Music and Movement. This class will combine dance, flags, and simple sign language as an expression of worship in a fun, kid friendly way. If your child is interested in participating, please email children@fccbristol.net so we can get an idea of how many to expect.

Finally, here are links to three songs that the kids are going to be learning during our worship time. Yahweh by Chris Tomlin confirms in our hearts that “there will no other god before” the One True God. I Speak Jesus by Charity Gale reminds us of the power in the name of Jesus. This Is Our God by Phil Wickam boldly proclaims who our God is and what He’s done!

Meet The Teacher

I met Jesus when I was 14, after moving to New Jersey from Illinois with my family. I have a degree in Special Education, and I believe that God has given me the gift of teaching children. I’ve been “Miss Jenny” to Beginner Sunday School kids since 1990. My alter-ego, Honeybunch the Clown is retired now, but if you ask, I may still have a photo.

Ed and I came to FCC after retiring in Richmond and moving to Bristol in 2007. We love this beautiful area, there are so many things to do and see. We also travel often. Having Harleys until just recently gave us some unique experiences.

Now we are considering “glamping” with an RV, which will give us more opportunities for golf and seafood farther South. The national parks in Utah are on our bucket list. At home, we cater to a spoiled 18-month-old miniature dachshund named Darcy.

We are so blessed to be part of the FCC family. The people are amazing and cover you with prayer whenever you need. We have real, relevant Bible teaching that is preparing us for Jesus’ return.
