October Issue

Last month we studied all about identity. In a world that is trying to confuse identity, remove identity, or even steal identity, we learned how can we stand firm in who God says we are. God calls us His children. He calls us beloved. When we remember whose we are, it makes it easier to trust in who He says we are.

This month we are going on a journey to discover what God says about fear. “Do not be afraid” is one of the most repeated commands in the Bible. How can we learn to follow this command, especially during a time where fear is everywhere? From the news we watch, to the scary images shown in stores and even in people’s front yards, how do we combat fear?

To do this we are going to investigate what happened when God’s people dealt with scary situations. From the Old Testiment, we’ll face the Red Sea with the Israelite people trapped between it and the mighty Egyptian army. We’ll lead the Israelite army into battle with a song! We’ll face off against a surrounding army meant to defeat just one man. Each time God told His people there was no need to fear. Yahweh is bigger, stronger, and able to save His people from anything they face.

Then we will follow Jesus in the New Testiment. We’ll watch Peter walk on water, and Jesus calm the storm. Then we will face the darkest days in history, the three days Jesus was in the tomb after His crucifixion. Throughout it all, our faith will be encouraged as we watch time and again our God defeat the enemy and His plan shine through.

As it says in Romans 8:31, “If God be for us who can be against us!” Our prayer is the kids will be able to solidify this answer in their hearts, “No one!”

“I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears.” Psalm 34:4

Power Verse!

For this month’s power verse, it was hard to choose just one, so we chose two! There will be an opportunity for the children to say one or both verses for a prize toward the end of the month. Our first verse is Psalm 56:3. “What time I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.” Our second verse is Psalm 34:4. “I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears.” These foundational verses are simple to memorize, yet so powerful to remember. Our hope is that our kids will be able to solidify these truths in their hearts, and when they face difficult times, these verses will anchor them in the truth of the One who is mighty to save.

Meet The Teacher

I was born and raised in Florida but moved to the Bristol area in 2007. Some of my favorite things to do are travel, refinish furniture, and spend time with my family on the lake. I have three children, two boys and one girl. I’m a winter girl who loves Christmas! We’ve been attending First Christian for a little over a year now and was eager to jump right in. I was asked to fill in in the nursery back in June and have been helping there ever since.
